Santa Marta, September 15, 2025 — The Tras La Perla Initiative, in partnership with Espumas Santa Fe, delivered 80 brand-new mattresses specially manufactured to meet the needs of families in the Pescaíto neighborhood affected by the heavy rains of August. The delivery focused on the sector between 7th and 9th Streets and 4th and 8th Avenues, as part of a medium-term strategy aimed at restoring household well-being beyond the scope of immediate emergency relief.
Tras La Perla and Espumas Santa Fe stressed that, during the first phase of the emergency, specialized humanitarian response agencies were responsible for addressing the most urgent needs. “Our intervention is deliberately subsequent and complementary: we aim to keep attention on the community, listen to their real needs once the immediate emergency has passed, and provide lasting solutions that improve families’ quality of life.”
The 80 mattresses are valuable household goods for the beneficiary families, entirely new and fresh from the factory. Their design and materials were developed exclusively for this project, with quality, durability, and comfort in mind for those who will use them.
Isabel Vásquez, Executive Director of Tras La Perla, stated:
“Building a better country is everyone’s task: citizens, organizations, and companies acting responsibly from their own roles. We are present in the Pescaíto neighborhood to listen, accompany, and offer practical and sustainable solutions that allow families to regain their daily well-being.”
For Laura Guisao, Director of Fundación Espumas Santa Fe, “It is a source of pride to place our expertise at the service of communities. These mattresses were manufactured with comfort, health, and durability in mind—qualities families need to return to normalcy after loss. Contributing with technical knowledge and local production is a concrete way to generate social value.” This delivery highlights the important role companies with technical expertise and production capacity can play in addressing everyday problems and contributing social value during recovery processes.
The families who received the mattresses welcomed them with gratitude and hope, expressing that this support represents “an important step toward recovering what was lost” and the possibility of “resting better” in their homes. With this initiative, Tras La Perla and Espumas Santa Fe reaffirm their commitment to the sustainable recovery of Pescaíto and to the conviction that cooperation among civil society, businesses, and authorities is key to building medium- and long-term solutions.
